It is ideally located on the most prestigious street in the New Town district of central Edinburgh. You will find the very best of Edinburgh's shopping, restaurants and nightlife right on the doorstep, including EH2 Tempus Bar & Restaurant, one of George Street's finest.

Edinburgh's tourist attractions are also easily within reach, including Edinburgh Castle and Holyrood Palace at either end of the Royal Mile. Access to the commercial and banking district as well as Edinburgh's International Conference Centre is also straightforward.

By Rail

Nearest station: Edinburgh Waverley station

  • Edinburgh Waverley Station has direct services to London Kings Cross
  • It is only half a mile or a five minute walk away so please see the map for directions when leaving the station
  • A taxi from the station takes 5 minutes and costs between £4 and £6
  • Edinburgh Haymarket Station is approximately 10 minutes from the hotel and would cost £5-£10 by taxi

Parking

There are various parking options. It is free to park on the street between 18.30 pm and 08:30 am every day of the week except Sunday when it is free all day.

Outside these hours, there is a maximum parking time of 3 hours at a cost of £1.80 per hour.


Alternatively, the hotel can offer a 20% discount when using the NCP - GREENSIDE PLACE, a short distance away, normally costing £19 for 24 hours but with our discount is £15.20. We recommend that you drop your luggage at the hotel first and the concierge will be more than happy to help with simple directions to reach the NCP.

By Air

Nearest airport: Edinburgh International Airport

  • Edinburgh International Airport is only seven miles from The George Hotel and approximately 25 minutes by taxi
  • The fare will cost under £20 but will be higher on public holidays
  • There's also a regular bus service, Airport Express X100, for £3.50 single or £6 return
  • This takes approximately 30 minutes and stops at Waverley Bridge www.flybybus.com
  • Please contact the Hotel Concierge department on 0131 240 7102 for private/chauffeur-driven transfers

Getting around Edinburgh

Getting around Edinburgh whether to explore its many tourist attractions or to get to an important meeting is easily managed using the excellent local bus service run by Lothian Buses. 

  • Buses are easily caught just outside the hotel to all parts of the city. 
  • A new tram service which will stop along Princes Street is currently being constructed.
